Mr. Weiss helping a beginner play violin at an instrument petting zoo
Teaching at an instrument petting zoo

COVID-19 note: It's been a tough year for music in the schools. With bands and orchestras unable to play together, you may be concerned about your readiness for next year, especially if you're starting high school. Summer is a great time to catch up with some individual study. I am teaching virtually, outdoors, or indoors (masked) during the pandemic.

Individual tutoring can be invaluable to develop and refine your skills and knowledge, especially when it comes to something as complicated as playing an instrument.

A music tutor should specialize in the same instrument you want to focus on. While I play and teach all string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in my classes, I have also been teaching violin, viola, and clarinet privately since 2016.

The experience is completely different from being in an ensemble class. In fact, it can be whatever you want it to be:

  • Learn to read music, or play by ear
  • Develop classical violin skills, or traditional fiddling
  • Study one-on-one, or with a small group

Whether you're a kid, or an adult… a complete beginner picking up your instrument for the first time, or an ambitious intermediate player ready to tackle tougher repertoire… someone who wants to make music the center of your life, or someone who just wants to play songs for fun…

I'd love to work with you!

My standard rates are $30 for a half hour lesson, $40 for 45 minutes, or $50 for a full hour. The first lesson is always free, and the rates are as flexible as they need to be—nobody should be excluded from the joy of music.

Please send me a message if you're interested in a trial lesson. I look forward to hearing from you!
